Town Awarded Ownership of Lebanon Green

On September 19, 2019, the Town was awarded ownership of the Green. And while the statement seems simple, the 20 minutes it took for the Judge to make his ruling is not indicative of the time and energy spent on this undertaking. The remaining unowned piece, 2 acres, remains for the Church to own. The Church has filed to own the two acres that surrounds their property and proceeds north.

All the maps, easements and judgement documents were filed in town land records on October 10, 2019. This ownership matter puts to rest the “who owns the Green” question that has gone on for decades.

Moving forward this ownership frankly does not change ways in which the town manages the Green.  We will continue to mow near the path, farmers that have been cutting hay will continue, trees can be pruned and planted now once a plan is approved, activities like the antique show and the Summerfest will continue, ice skating in the winter, walking on the path year-round and the list goes on. The Board of Selectman is still working through the details so that we can ensure we are managing the property in the way that is expected.

On behalf of the Board of Selectman, we thank the Town for authorizing the funds necessary to complete this work.
