Statement on First Positive COVID19 Cases in Lebanon

Over the weekend, the Uncas Health District notified us of the first confirmed cases of COVID19 in Lebanon. In the coming days and weeks, there will certainly be more confirmed cases, and it is extremely likely that there are already other cases here which have not been confirmed by testing. The same is true for all of our neighboring towns where you may go to do your grocery shopping.

This is not a reason to panic, but it is proof that we all need to maintain our social distancing efforts and be cautious even in our small town.

Minimize your trips to the grocery store -- daily trips are not necessary. At this point, it is okay to go outside and walk around. We have the walking path on the Green and some great parks in town as well, but please remain at least six feet from others if you are on a trail. If you have been to New York recently, please self-isolate for at least 14 days from when you arrived. And, of course, remember to wash your hands. If you have disinfectant or disinfecting wipes, remember to clean your cell phone.

Write up a medical history and medication list for every member of your family and make sure it's handy (And in your ICE file on your phone). Local hospitals and ambulance services are not allowing ANYONE to accompany a patient to the hospital. If you or a loved one has to go the hospital for ANY reason you don't want EMS, doctors or nurses missing key information. Most of us have plenty of time on our hands right now.

We are working closely with the fire department and EMS during this time for their safety and yours. We have been able to obtain a small supply of masks for them through the Uncas Health District.

We will provide more updates as the situation develops. We will get through this together.
