The Town of Lebanon is continuing to honor its commitment to clean energy.
Again, for 2010-11, the Town of Lebanon will purchase approx. 20% of the town's municipal electricity usage from "green" sources. The Town, which, in July 2007, became the 52nd town to commit to the SmartPower 20% by 2010, has honored its commitment to the campaign, by purchasing renewable energy certificates equal to 46,000 kWh of electricity/yr from clean energy sources. This purchase represents 20% of the Town’s estimated electricity usage and fulfills their annual commitment to the campaign. (See full press release.) Green power supplier, Sterling Planet, has been endorsed by the Town as the preferred Green Power supplier.
Lebanon's purchase has direct environmental benefits by avoiding approx. 62,330 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from conventional power plants using nonrenewable fossil fuels. This roughly equivalent to 6 passenger cars NOT driven for one year. More on estimated environmental benefits.....
In addition, the Town of Lebanon purchases it's electricity from TransCanada Power Marketing Ltd. through a consortium with The CT Conference of Municipalities. TransCanada Power generates approx. 40% of it's electricity from non-fossil fuel & non-nuclear sources. More info....... Through the continued participation in the CT Clean Energy Program, Lebanon is committed to encouraging residents to also purchase some or all of their residential (or business) electricity from green sources. In addition to the environmental benefits of green power, the Town of Lebanon will be eligible to receive a free installed clean energy system (min. value $10,000) when it reaches the level of 100 residential/business signups for green power purchase. Residents can track Lebanon's progress on the CT Clean Energy Communities website.
To ensure Lebanon gets full credit for residential signups, please use the Clean Energy Enrollment Form.
Note - currently only CL&P participates in this program. Bozrah Light & Power customers do not currently have the option to purchase green power under this program.
